The world of the Matrix is here. It’s nothing like what we imagined. Your brain is lying to you. Your perceptions are on a delay; you 'see' things that aren’t there all the time, and, in theory, it’s even possible for it to build a simulation indistinguishable from reality. The Matrix, the Metaverse, and the 1995 sci-fi movie Strange Days all have the idea of uploading a synthetic experience into the mind in common. But soon, this technology might not be so fictional at all. Adam Rogers examines the work of MIT’s Nancy Kanwisher and the suggested possibility of jacking directly into the brain.
