As it gets more expensive to repair things, one solution seems to be to just make things simpler and easier to replace. But Mark Miodownik, professor of materials and society at University College London, writes in the Financial Times about a different possibility for the future – one where materials repair themselves. What if potholes could fix themselves and we could even build cities that can do that?
