#220 - How to "Joyscroll"

20 mins | May 30, 2022

Today's episode from 30th May 2022. In 2018 an artist in the US tweeted that she was "taking a break from doomscrolling". It's thought to be the first time that the term was used online and it's become a phrase to describe spending too much screen time taking in negative news. In a year which has brought us war in Europe, suffocating inflation and nasty celebrity fights, we look at how you can "joyscroll" to escape the anxiety-inducing news online. Many of us can relate to being on our phone, scrolling up and down through many apps, feeling tremendously unhappy with most of the stuff we see, and yet really struggling to break that cycle and put our phones away. Fed up of looking at that endless gloom, Pandora Sykes decided to 'joyscroll' instead. Here for The Guardian, she teaches us how to do it and explains all the benefits this practice can bring to our lives. Wake up with Curio is a different kind of morning show that gives you the context behind the news and gets you motivated for the day ahead, every Monday - Friday.
