Why can traffic stops turn deadly? If we want safer roads, then we must 'welcome our robot overlords.' Traffic rules should be able to be enforced rigorously, uniformly, and, most importantly, without people getting killed. However, due to factors such as racial bias or lax penalties, this is often not the case. In this edition of Matthew Yglesias’ Slow Boring, he discusses why American traffic enforcement is so fraught and ways we could potentially fix it.
