Pfizer chief Albert Bourla: ‘We are the most efficient vaccine machine’
When does he think the pandemic will end? From veterinary researcher to life-saving CEO, David Crow interviews Albert Bourla for another edition of Lunch with the FT. Together, they discuss the success of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID jab, the CEO's fascinating exchanges with Donald Trump and why suspending patents is no way to inoculate the world’s poor. "What did the pair discuss? I ask. He chooses his words carefully. 'He made it very clear . . . that he wanted [the vaccine] before October, before the elections — he said ‘faster is better because people will die’.' He insists, however, that Trump did not lean on him to speed things up. 'He never pressed me. Never. But I knew how badly he wanted it. And I knew it would come whenever it comes.'"
