One size does not fit all: tech and the feminist fightback

How bias in product design persists. Independent female-run companies may be filling the blind spots left by male-dominated tech workers, but equality still remains a long way off. Elaine Moore explores. "The term femtech is credited to Ida Tin, co-founder of period-tracking app Clue, who has said that male investors seemed uneasy talking about female-focused products and needed a helpful catch-all term. It has expanded to cover companies such as Univfy, which helps predict IVF success rates, breastfeeding start-up Lactapp and Maven, a women focused online health platform. Investments have increased too. San Francisco-based Cora, which sells organic tampons, recently raised $7.5m. Look at Apple’s App Store and you will now find dozens of menstruation-tracking apps."
