In building the heart of a star, humans inch closer to net zero
Can we harness limitless power from minimal fuel? A recent breakthrough by the National Ignition Facility means that we could be one step closer to finding a solution to our need for an abundant clean fuel source: nuclear fusion. Although the prospect of more nuclear energy may not sound particularly safe, this is much less wasteful than our current options, such as fission. But why are scientists having trouble harnessing it? Anjana Ahuja explores.
