The myth of the productive commute
Is non-commuting a new form of rebellion? As the world starts to phase out the pandemic, a growing issue is: should all employees make a comeback to the office? Many have gotten used to their new WFH life; others think it should be all about balance. And then there are those who dread the idea of having to commute like they were doing before the virus' outbreak. In this instalment of Culture Study, Anne takes aim at the fantasy of 'productive commutes', an idea that considers the time it takes to travel between our homes and the office as theoretically valuable for unwinding. But, in her view, this is just a very one-dimensional way of looking at things and does not apply to the vast majority.
