#134 - Imagining a world without crypto
Today's episode from 28th January 2022. We've got two excellent pieces to end the week. First off: As Bitcoin falls to its lowest for around six months, we imagine a world without cryptocurrency. Is it too entangled in our all of our lives like the internet, or can we still do without it? Then later, to make the best of life there must be pain. That's according to a Yale professor, who argues hedonism is overrated. We explore his ideas further to better understand what we all want/need from life. When crypto is child’s play, it will have won.Not much would change for the vast majority of us if we woke up one morning and found that the entire crypto phenomenon had disappeared forever. In Bloomberg Opinion, Leonid Bershidsky argues that Cryptocurrencies won’t conquer our wallets until they capture more of our imaginations and make us feel unable to separate ourselves from them. What makes life meaningful? We often pursue pleasure and much of our voluntary struggles - waking up early, skipping dessert or budgeting - is with a greater goal in mind. For The Guardian, Psychologist Paul Bloom argues that to live a meaningful life we need to experience fear, struggles and challenges as well. Wake up with Curio is a different kind of morning show that gives you the context behind the news and gets you motivated for the day ahead, every Monday - Friday.
