Europe needs to take primary responsibility for its own defense

The pivot to Asia is still a good idea. Europe is so much richer than Russia that it can afford to outspend it without reaching that threshold, but they need to spend intelligently. In this instalment of Slow Boring, Matthew Yglesias argues that Barack Obama was right all along, and for the United States, it's still a good idea to "pivot to Asia." Here, he explains that democratic Asia is overmatched by China and really needs outside help, whilst democratic Europe should be able to handle Russia, which is a lot smaller and poorer than Xi Jinping's nation.
