Fighting words: free speech and violence

The contemporary right has made a habit of calling the left fascist for their apparent attacks on ‘free speech’. But following a double murder in the name of Free Speech, Laurie Penny reminds us that it is often the hateful contents of speech that people take issue with. It’s time that more people recognise that words have very real consequences.
