After eight long years, we have made the difficult decision to close Curio. When we founded Curio in 2016, our aim was simple: to make trusted, high‑quality journalism fit seamlessly into busy lives while returning meaningful revenue to the people who create it. Along the way we returned nearly US$10 million to our partner publications, were featured on stage at Apple’s keynote twice, and in 2023 introduced a tool that let anyone create a trusted podcast on any subject—an innovation that even drew praise from Bill Gates.Despite the phenomenal feedback from subscribers, it became clear that, in an AI‑driven future, narrated journalism alone could not be sustainable long term. Over the past eight years the landscape has shifted dramatically: the understandable concerns of content creators about AI and the deep pockets of big tech have made it increasingly hard for an independent company to compete—especially if we are to continue paying fairly for the journalism we use.We are deeply grateful to our investors, our wonderful team, our publishing partners, and—most of all—to you, our listeners, whose enthusiasm and encouragement kept us going. We are sorry we couldn’t take the mission further.Thank you for being part of Curio’s story. With gratitude and best wishes,
